The project external evaluator believes in VET

“As a great believer in VET, I am so pleased to be part of this great project. VET education has taken me from a very junior trainee laboratory technician to Academic Director of a national UK college and Managing Director of my own company.
All my adult learning was VET, initially doing a day a week at college as part of my laboratory training while later doing week long courses at university as part of my masters degrees.

The most important lesson I learned along the way is that nobody will pay you for what you know, but that will pay well for what you can do with what you know. I hold that VET, with its focus on practical learning, gives individuals work and life skills in a way that a purely academic education can never do.

As the external evaluator on this project I will be using skills that I learnt in industry where demonstrating the value of an investment is a key requirement. When I was learning this I never thought that I would be using these skills many year later on an international project. VET learning is truly the gift that keeps giving.”
